Lamingtons & Lasagna is about history of the eating kind, especially of the Italian-Australian food history kind.
It is a work-in-progress by Tania Cammarano, who has a Masters in Gastronomy from Adelaide University, an unhealthy obsession with arancini and a severe dislike of Mrs Hannah Maclurcan.
Tania has recently started a PhD at Adelaide University. It’s about food, Italians and Australia. She is interested in the contribution of Italian migrants to Australia’s national diet, as well as the many other factors that contribute to changes in a country’s food culture. All of this means that she can continue to obsess about arancini. And pecorino. And pizza. And ricotta. You know, just the things that really matter…

Hi Tania, just discovered your blog and was very interested to read about your studies combining food, Italians and Australia being an Italian-Australian myself who loves cooking. I was also stunned to read your entry that Sirena tuna is made in Australia as like you I always thought it was from Italy. Amazing. It’s actually pretty cool that it’s an ‘Italian-Australian’ product. I don’t know if you’ve read Mezza Italiana by Zoe Boccabella about being Italian-Australian and travelling back to Italy. It came out this year and has become my favourite book. All the best for your PhD. Luciana

Hi Tania. Great blog. Your latest event in Melbourne sounded great – shame I’m in Sydney. I started my ‘Good Bad and the Italian’ blog one year ago and enjoying posting immensely. It’s about food, film, family and growing up Italian in Australia.
Ciao Tania. I have just watched your talk about the Italiano Cheese Company and it brought back great memories of growing up in North Melbourne. In particular selling Italiano’s Ricotta wrapped in greaseproof paper in our Italian deli/milk bar in Errol St.

I have the original of COOKING THE ITALIAN WAY or rather the 1960 revised edition of the 1958 first edition. It has a brown cloth covered binding and coarse thick brownish paper. I thought it must have been a post WWII book as the paper is so poor! So that is the true age: certainly not published in 1900 ! Daly published various books on Italy including Antique Italian Cooking.
